THE FIT EXPO

Desde los Cielos @ the Cheech

This exhibition features 15 Inland Empire artists who use the concept of alienness to explore personal and communal identities that defy societal norms. Curated by Emmanuel Camacho Larios and Perry Picasshoe, the show includes a diverse range of works—paintings, textiles, sculptures, photographs, video installations, and more—each reimagining “alien” as a metaphor for transformation, empowerment, and self-reclamation.

By redefining the experience of being an outsider, the artists demonstrate how alienness can be a powerful tool for self-expression and community building. Historically, the term “alien” has been used to portray individuals as outsiders, reinforcing stereotypes, particularly the Queer community who is often seen as “alien” to societal norms. This term has also been politicized in discussions around immigration, where the term “illegal alien” dehumanizes and criminalizes those not born within the borders of the United States.

Featured artists include Emmanuel Camacho Larios, Gabriela Díaz, César García, Stephanie Godoy, Mariah Green, Faustino Larios, Yulissa Mendoza, Josué E. Muñoz, Perry Picasshoe, Verónica Preciado, Briar Rosa, Cam Santa Anna, Alexa Vázquez, Jessie Welch, and Mayra Zambrano.
