Hollywood (various locations)

On Sunday, April 6; between 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. CicLAvia will celebrate its 59th car-free open streets event catalyzing vibrant public spaces, active transportation and good health through car-free streets. CicLAvia—Koreatown meets Hollywood connects Hollywood, East Hollywood, Melrose Hill, and Koreatown, welcoming everyone of all ages and abilities to enjoy this day-long 4.75-mile pop-up park. You can enjoy the day with your favorite people-powered way, whether that's walking, jogging, biking, roller skating, skating, or simply spectating. Always free, CicLAvia participants can show up anywhere along the route between 9am-4pm to enjoy the open streets, take the time to explore, and see where the day takes you.

Imagine streets alive with joy, laughter, and the freedom to roam. CicLAvia is a non-profit organization that has been opening streets throughout Los Angeles County transforming city streets into a car-free celebration of community, connection, and possibility — places where participants can slow down, connect, and appreciate the city in a new way. CicLAvia is about reimagining our city streets as welcoming spaces for everyone — places for walking, running, rolling, skating, cycling, gathering, and enjoying the moment. As a nonprofit organization, CicLAvia relies on the public’s support to continue bringing opportunities for meaningful community connections, mindful exploration, and greater understanding across Los Angeles.

CicLAvia—Koreatown meets Hollywood includes four (4) Hubs filled with plenty of activities and programs along the route. Hubs are walking zones (mandatory bike dismounts) and meeting points along the route which includes the Hollywood Hub located on Vine St south of Hollywood Blvd; Santa Monica Blvd Hub located just east of Western Ave; Western Ave Hub located near 2nd street; and Koreatown Hub located on Wilshire Blvd just west of Vermont Ave. Hubs offer family-friendly activities, restrooms, free water refilling stations, free basic bike repair, bike parking, places to sit and meet up with friends and family, and first aid. Free pedicab rides are available at each hub’s information booth.

The CicLAvia—Koreatown meets Hollywood route is accessible via many different forms of transportation. There is not one place to start or finish. Read more about getting to the route through these links: hubs, Metro, bike rentals, parking for the event, group meet ups: walk/run clubs, feeder rides, bus detours, and help getting to CicLAvia. In addition, near the Koreatown Meets Hollywood route, there are 2.1 miles of protected bike lanes on Hollywood Boulevard, between Gower Street and Hillhurst Avenue, part of LADOT’s Access to Hollywood plan. These streets are not part of the route and will have regular car traffic on them. Please note, if you are biking to and from CicLAvia along any streets that are open to cars, it is at the discretion of the individual.

Yo-Yo Ma, Williams & Dudamel John Williams Spotlight Festival

Apr 3, 2025 | 8:00PM - 10:00PM
The Walt Disney Concert Hall

John Williams describes his friendship with legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma as “one of the treasures of my life,” and Ma has affectionately referred to the composer as “Ludwig.” The duo has been close collaborators since the early 1980s, leading to Williams writing music with Ma’s cello in mind and working together on the 2022 album A Gathering of Friends. Williams and Gustavo Dudamel share a similar friendship, built on artistic admiration and understanding, and the trio combine for an exhilarating night of Williams’ music.

This performance is generously supported by the Elaine and Bram Goldsmith Great Artists Fund.

We ❤️ LA: Free Concert to Honor First Responders

WE ❤️ LA

Tue / Apr 1, 2025 - 8:00PM

A free concert for wildfire first responders and impacted community members

About this Performance

Gustavo Dudamel, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, global superstar Christina Aguilera, and additional special guests come together for a free concert recognizing the bravery and selflessness on display during the Los Angeles wildfires.

Known for her remarkable impact on pop music, Aguilera brings her powerhouse voice back to the Bowl, reuniting with Dudamel and the LA Phil for an extraordinary night honoring first responders and impacted community members.

Leading contemporary composer Gabriela Ortiz champions the idea that “music has the power to grant us access to the intangible, healing our wounds and binding us to what can only be expressed through sound.” The orchestra takes up this powerful calling with Ortiz’s celebratory Kauyumari, followed by Mahler’s poignant “love letter” and a selection of film-music favorites by the legendary John Williams.

Gerald Clayton, the six-time Grammy-nominated pianist raised in Altadena, joins the LA Phil for Gershwin’s jazzy and intricate Variations on “I Got Rhythm,” the Palisades Charter High School Band helps kick off the evening with “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and more special guests (to be announced) perform additional symphonic classics.

WE ❤️ LA is generously supported by Anne Akiko Meyers and Jason SubotkyGregory Annenberg WeingartenGRoW @ AnnenbergTerri and Jerry Kohl; and Barbara and Jay Rasulo.

Register to Access Tickets: First responders and community members directly impacted by the wildfires must register for a chance to access free tickets. Registrants will be randomly selected and notified beginning Thursday, March 20 at 12pm PST. Free tickets will be available for selected registrants on Friday, March 21 at 10am PST. Read Terms & Conditions.

Writers Bloc & Book Soup Present Graydon Carter and Monica Lewinsky

Who among us doesn’t love Vanity Fair? And if you do, it’s because of visionary editor Graydon Carter. For 25 years, Graydon Carter in no small way helped to define– and create– contemporary pop culture, both here and in Europe.

While Carter’s resumé includes dazzling entries (including co-founding the defiantly satirical and hilarious Spy Magazine), it was Vanity Fair that catapulted Carter into the imagination of mainstream America and Europe. He molded Vanity Fair into a magazine that cheerfully embraced the highs and lows of American arts, culture, politics and commerce through features and photography by wonderful writers and great photojournalists.

In his new book, When the Going Was Good: An Editor’s Adventures During the Last Golden Age of Magazines, we see Carter’s profound influence on American lifestyle and culture. While no longer steering Vanity Fair, he is now the co-founder of the indispensable digital magazine, Air Mail. Graydon Carter’s inestimable impact cannot be understated: we see it not only in the glamour of the entertainment industry, but more important, in magazine journalism, just brimming with features and photography that have been so fundamental to our culture. When the Going Was Good spills over with great stories featuring outsize personalities. Graydon Carter cultivated wonderful writers, artists, and photographers when he ran Spy and Vanity Fair. And his own story is as captivating as any that appeared under his watch.

Moderator to be announced.

Urgent: Action Alert on the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles

Urgent: Action Alert on the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles
Submitted by Barbara Broide

Take Action: Submit a comment to LA City Council File 15-0989-S47 here:
🔗 Public Comment Portal

Why This Matters

The proposed City Council motion would allow any Olympic or Paralympic-related development—temporary or permanent—to bypass essential regulations, including:

  • Environmental review (CEQA)
  • Height limits & setbacks
  • Conditional use permits
  • Site Plan Reviews

This could allow nearly any project claiming an Olympic connection to override land use rules, with little to no public oversight.

What’s Happening Now?

  • The motion was briefly discussed in City Council on 2/21/25.
  • It returns for a vote on Friday, 2/28/25—likely with last-minute amendments that will not be made available for public review.
  • The motion is too vague and broad—it must be revised or opposed.

Major Concerns

  • Unchecked Development: The motion creates a loophole for fast-tracking high-rise hotels, media centers, sports facilities, billboards, and traffic lane changes—all with no public input.
  • Loss of Public Land: Open spaces like Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area could be permanently converted to private sports facilities.
  • Power to LA28 Committee: The City’s contract with LA28 gives the private Olympic organizing committee near-total control over developments, with minimal City Council oversight.

What Can You Do?

Submit a Public Comment: LA City Clerk Comment Portal

Learn More: "The No-Plan Olympics" Article
🚨 Attend the Council Meeting: Friday, 2/28/25 at 10 AM at Van Nuys City Hall (14410 Sylvan St.).

Los Angeles was promised a “no-build” Olympics. This motion undermines that commitment and opens the door to unchecked development. Make your voice heard before it’s too late!

Controller Mejia’s Budget and Finance Townhall

Controller Kenneth Mejia is kicking off the City’s budget season by hosting a virtual Budget - and Finance Town Hall on Thursday, February 27 at 8 PM where he will discuss the City’s budget and finances as well as answer questions. You will need to register.

Since taking office in late 2022, Mejia has been vocal about the City’s budget deficits and years of short term balance budget balancing measures at the cost of long term fiscal sustainability.  There are departmental over expenditures, overly optimistic revenue projections and subsequent revenue shortfalls, the increase in liability claims, the impact of new labor agreements, and the depletion of the Reserve Fund.  And now the City needs to address the fiscal stress from the impact from the firestorm disaster.

Mejia has also made a number of common sense recommendations, including, but not limited to, the following:

·      Implement a two year budget cycle

·      Develop a five year strategic plan to fix the City’s finances

·      Develop an infrastructure plan to address the City’s deferred maintenance needs

·      Reform the City’s budgeting process and priorities

The Controller will be issuing his charter mandated Revenue Forecast Report for the 2025-2026 Fiscal Year within the week.  This will provide us with insight into the City’s seven economically sensitive taxes (Property, Business, Sales, Utility, Hotel, Documentary Transfer, and Parking Occupancy comprise about 75% of General Fund revenue) and the impact of the wildfires on these taxes.

This revenue estimate does not address appropriations and the General Fund and overall budget.  We will need to wait until April 20 when the Mayor submits her Proposed Budget to the City Council for its consideration.
