4th Annual Nikkei Celebration in Boyle Heights - August 2nd

2025, the Year of the Snake, is a time rich with significance, as snakes are believed to remember every interaction, both good and bad. Folklore highlights these creatures' remarkable traits, particularly their tendency to reward kindness, exemplified by the tale of a white snake that bestowed treasure upon a humble fisherman who had rescued it.

The snake's symbolism is highly revered. It represents elegance and tradition while also signifying renewal and rebirth. Shedding its skin is a powerful metaphor for new beginnings, personal growth, and the life cycle. The snake's inquisitiveness and vibrancy are often associated with wisdom, intuition, and transformation, positioning it as a symbol of hope and advancement for the populace.

Historically, the snake has been worshipped as a deity of fertility and weather, embodying longevity and a potent life force. Its remarkable ability to survive without food has enhanced its reputation as a divine messenger, heralding prosperity and good fortune to its followers.

The tales and legends surrounding the snake's mystical powers fuel belief in its ability to bring positive transformations and blessings of abundance.

📅 Saturday, June 21, 2025
🕢 7:30 AM – Complimentary Breakfast | 9:00 AM – Program Begins
📍 Los Angeles City Hall

Budget Day is fast approaching—and this year, more than ever, your participation is critical.

On June 21, join fellow Angelenos, civic leaders, and decision-makers at City Hall to confront some of the most serious budget challenges Los Angeles has ever faced. The City is grappling with a record-high deficit, the real possibility of widespread department layoffs, and consolidation or closure of essential services. These decisions will impact every corner of the city—and every resident.

While the City budget may seem abstract to some, the truth is simple: the budget equals services. As taxpayers and stakeholders, we have a right to expect a certain quality of life—and when funding is cut, that quality of life is at stake.

Now is the time to show up and make your voice heard.

🔹 What to Expect

  • Breakfast served at 7:30 AM in the City Hall 3rd floor rotunda

  • Main program begins at 9:00 AM in the City Council Chambers

  • Breakout sessions to discuss regional priorities and community impacts

🎤 Featured Speakers Include:

  • Mayor Karen Bass

  • Matt Szabo, City Administrative Officer

  • Councilmember Katy Yaroslavsky, Chair, Budget & Finance Committee

  • City Controller Kenneth Mejia

  • Rick Cole, Chief Deputy Controller

Stephen Cheung, CEO, Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC)
And more to be announced

This is the most significant and high-powered lineup of Budget Day speakers in recent history, convening at a time when the city’s fiscal future hangs in the balance.

Neighborhood Councils are also expected to see steep cuts in funding. If you are a board member or stakeholder, your presence is vital to show that our communities are paying attention—and that we demand transparency, equity, and accountability in the decisions being made.

📌 Don’t Wait:

  • Pre-registration and parking details will be available soon.

  • Spread the word: Invite your neighbors, friends, and fellow stakeholders.

Let’s fill City Hall with the voices of the people who make Los Angeles thrive. Budget Day 2025 is not just an event—it’s a call to action. Be there.

All proceeds for this annual fundraising series support programming within the Park. More than ever, this event will provide essential funding to help sustain Barnsdall Art Park amidst the City of Los Angeles's newly proposed budget cuts, which put much of the site's cultural programming at risk.

The event, which has always attracted sell-out crowds, takes place on Olive Hill and the West Lawn of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House, the sole UNESCO World Heritage site in Los Angeles, every Friday from June 6 to September 26 (excluding July 4) from 5:30 PM to 9 PM.

Our neighbors at Kaiser Permanente are back as lead supporter of the 2025 season. Attendees are advised to bring blankets for optimal comfort.

While onsite, discover a series of compelling exhibitions at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) and Barnsdall Junior Arts Center Gallery. Commencing in June, Friday Night Arts at LAMAG will offer a dynamic blend of artist-led presentations and interactive installations, opening with an immersive installation by prolific multimedia artist, Bill Barminski. COLA 2025 exhibition, an annual exhibition of new works by LA-based artists, will be showcased throughout July and August.

Wine tasting tickets cost $45 with other tier options that include a tour of Hollyhock House starting at $80. *A limited number of tours of the main interior of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House, the only UNESCO World Heritage site in Los Angeles, will be offered
