Aliso Canyon Survivors, Advocates to Host Town Hall Marking 10 Years Since Gas Blowout

NORTHRIDGE, CA — On Sunday, October 26 at 3 p.m., survivors of the Aliso Canyon gas blowout, along with community advocates, will host a Town Hall at The Vineyard at Porter Ranch to mark the ten-year anniversary of the nation’s largest methane disaster.

Researchers from UCLA will present findings from a new study linking the 2015 blowout to lasting health effects — including a nearly 50% increase in low birth weights among babies born to women pregnant during the disaster. Residents will also introduce a new tool for tracking and monitoring future leaks.

For one day only, Angelenos of all ages and abilities are invited to walk, jog, bike, skate, or simply enjoy the city as a massive “pop-up” park. Always free and open to the public, CicLAvia transforms streets into vibrant community spaces, inspiring healthier, greener, and more connected neighborhoods.

Four activity hubs along the route—MacArthur Park, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, and Mariachi Plaza—offer family-friendly programs, rest areas, water stations, bike repair, and free pedicab rides. Special highlights this year include a Caltrans 15-year anniversary exhibit at the Norma Dorsey Museum, and a Natural History Museum “LA on Wheels” showcase.

“Returning each October to where CicLAvia started in Los Angeles is always nostalgic but there’s also always something new along the route to explore, see, taste, enjoy,” says CicLAvia Executive Director Romel Pascual.
