We are very pleased to have three senior representatives of the LA Fire Department, led by the Valley Bureau Commander Trevor Richmond, who will present the LAFD Strategic Plan for 2022-2025. They will be available to answer some of your questions about fire protection and public safety.

We have a number of hot topics to discuss including a request to have the Valley neighborhood councils write to the local City Councilmembers urging them to retain online public comment opportunities.

For those of you expecting LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, he will be our guest speaker on July 14.

Mid City West Inner-City Arts Event

Join Us for a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony to Celebrate the New Mural

Mid City West Neighborhood Council invites you to join us at 9am on Sunday, June 5th at Rosewood Gardens park (located at the NE corner of Fairfax and Rosewood Avenue) for a ribbon cutting ceremony to recognize the artists and supporters who made this new mural possible.

This mural was created by an artist team from Inner City Arts. Youth artists MiaBella Chavez and Erick Rodriguez led the design and implementation of the mural and were supervised by the very talented professional artist Nina Palomba. We are grateful to each of the artists for their vision, creativity and hard work.

The mural is the second and final phase of a beautification project at Rosewood Gardens. Earlier this Spring, nearly 30 community volunteers including members of the Fairfax District business community, LA Conservation Corps and Councilmember Paul Koretz rolled-up their sleeves to clean the park and surrounding blocks.

This project is made possible by a grant from the City of LA Office of Community Beautification 'Keep LA Beautiful' program and donations from the Office of Councilmember Paul Koretz and Television City/ Hackman Capital Partners.

Coffee (donated by our friends at Cofax) and light refreshments to be provided for guests.

Early Notification System (ENS)

The Board of Neighborhood Commissioners (BONC) Agenda Posting Policy requires all Neighborhood Councils (NCs) to submit agendas for all board and committee meetings to the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment for posting to the City’s Early Notification System (ENS).

The BONC Agenda Posting Policy also requires Neighborhood Councils to:

Physically post at least one Brown Act compliant agenda for all Board and Committee meetings. This means that an NC must post to at least 1 physical location not less than 72 hours in advance of a regular meeting and not less than 24 hours in advance of a special meeting;
Post on the Neighborhood Council’s website not less than 72 hours in advance of a Regular meeting and not less than 24 hours in advance of a Special meeting. If a Neighborhood Council does not have a website, it must post at 5 to 7 physical locations, one of which must be posted not less than 72 hours in advance of a Regular meeting and not less than 24 hours in advance of a Special meeting; and
Submit an electronic copy via email to the Department at [email protected], not less than 72 hours in advance of a Regular meeting and not less than 24 hours in advance of a Special meeting. The Department will then submit the agenda for posting to the ENS system when reasonably feasible.

NOTE: The BONC requirements to submit agendas to the Department for the City’s ENS, and to post to the NC’s independent website are not Brown Act requirements.

The Neighborhood Council may also email a copy of the agenda (or an announcement of the meeting with a link to the agenda) to their stakeholders at the time the meeting information is sent to its board or committee members.

Please note that possible delays in postings to ENS may be due to staffing issues or backlog in the NC Support inbox.

Change here has always come from Angelenos themselves, and the ways we interact with each other and cope with the accidents, disasters, and ongoing challenges that define life in L.A. Before June’s first-round mayoral election, Zócalo tunes out the politicians and asks the people: what do we want for Los Angeles, and how might we get it? What will it take to improve our diminishing quality of life, reduce the cost of living, and improve our schools? And what are people prepared to do to make Los Angeles more just, safe, healthy, beautiful, and equitable? A panel of scholars and artists join us to imagine what an L.A. of the people, by the people, for the people could look like.

USC political scientist Ange-Marie Hancock Alfaro, Green Qween co-founder and CEO Taylor Bazley, and CSUN government and community relations assistant vice president Rafael De La Rosa visit Zócalo to imagine what an L.A. of the people, by the people, for the people could look like.
