It’s out! It’s big and bold and it's going to transform Los Angeles! Have you seen it? I’m talking about Metro’s plan for the ballot measure. Now LA Metro wants to hear from YOU about how to make it even better. LA Metro is holding public forums across the county in April starting on Tuesday. Click here to sign up. LA Metro’s plan is a major commitment to building the world-class transit system LA County needs. It includes light rail, subway, arterials, first & last mile, bus rapid transit and bus improvements all over the county. The transit expansion and road improvements will create new jobs and make it easier for people to walk and bicycle. New money for operations will keep fares low while service expands. Wow! We know you’re excited about making it easier to get around LA County, so why not show your support by going to one of LA Metro’s public forums? Click here to sign up. Starting Tuesday, LA Metro is hosting seven weekday forums in the evening from 6-8pm, and two Saturday meetings 10am-noon, all in April. Even with all these exciting new investments, there are big opportunities to do even more! Big opportunities like: changing out the diesel trucks on our roads to clean trucks. Like taking seriously the burdens created by rail construction in neighborhoods and helping the small businesses and residents who are hurt by it. Like investing in our vast network of arterials and boulevards to relieve traffic congestion in a way to builds communities. Like doing more for seniors and people with disabilities, whose numbers are expected to double by 2050. These are very exciting times for the future of Los Angeles. Can we count on you to show your support by going to one of LA Metro’s public forums? Click here to sign up. Thank you for being part of LA’s transformation! WHO: Nuclear Power Panel for the Atomic Age Cinema Fest:
Harvey Wasserman / Co-moderator
Kat Kramer / Co-moderator
Mimi Kennedy - actress/activist
Esai Morales - actor /activist
Libbe HaLevy- host „“Nuclear Hotseat“
SAVE THE DATE , April 27th 2016
WHAT: The Atomic Age Film Festival is dedicated to all films about nuclear power and the clear and present danger of terrorists threats with ISIL stating their next target could be nuclear. Fears are being revived of dirty bombs, and the very real risks of radioactivity contamination causing millions of deaths. Concerned are heightened with the safety and security of the 440 nuclear power plants in 31 countries. Recent terror events make it imperative that we become aware of the problem to resolve the problems. Nuclear accidents like Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, or Fukushima should never be forgotten, nor repeated.
We are part of the International Uranium Film Festival, a non-profit foundation founded in Rio de Janeiro, which has traveled to 33 cities, 7 countries and 5 continents. Most of the people attending the festival are concerned about the dangers of nuclear power. It is not a typical Hollywood film festival, it is more of a forum.
The Los Angeles edition of the 33rd Uranium Film Festival is titled the Atomic Age Film Festival. This annual festival has global reach. The festival has toured todozens of cities in Brazil, Germany, India, Portugal, Canada, Salvador, India, and the U.S.: New York, SantaFe, Albuquerque, and Washington DC. The goal is to establish the Atomic AgeFilm Festival on all continents.
Of all the films on this sensitive subject, internationally acclaimed German Director Michael Von Hohenberg’s Final Picture and his alluring model/actress star Nadine Badewitz is, without doubt, the strongest one yet. From the first scene the audience swiftly lays waste to the oft-repeated saber-rattling threat statements by world leaders who intonate we will survive, our enemies will be vanquished. Final Picture is Stanley Kramer’s On The Beach for the Now Generation. “ Unnerving and unforgettable, A must see. “ Tag Hollywood.

Private School for Students with Autism Hosts Open House in Woodland Hills on February 27
The private day school, CARD Academy, uses an intensive instructional model called applied behavior analysis to teach students with autism.
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. (Feb. 09, 2016) - CARD Academy, a nonpublic school day school for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), today announced its open house in Woodland Hills, Calif. on Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Using an applied behavior analysis (ABA) teaching approach, CARD Academy educates students with ASD, developmental delay and speech-language impairment from preschool to age 22. The open house will offer parents a chance to discover the benefits of the private day school, ask questions and meet the staff. The open house will take place at the CARD Academy site located at 6330 Variel Ave., Suite 101, Woodland Hills, Calif. 91367. Light refreshments will be served. To RSVP or ask questions, contact Serenita Kumar, CARD Academy Business Development Manager, by phone at 818-657-1112 or email at [email protected].
The California Department of Education now allows CARD Academy to accept nonpublic school placements. Please contact us for more information on how to receive special education services through district funding.
“We are excited to host our open house in Woodland Hills and meet the community,” said CARD Academy superintendent, Mary Ann Cassell, MA, BCBA, LBA. “The goal of CARD Academy is to offer students with autism an individualized education enabling them to grow and thrive.”
CARD Academy is an institution focused on teaching excellence. Students receive a personalized program based on their performance on several assessments covering a wide range of skill areas, including language, social, academic, cognition, motor, adaptive and executive functioning.
Once the assessment process is complete, teachers and administrators work to create a dynamic individualized education program (IEP). Student-teacher ratios range from 1:1 to 4:1 based upon the individualized needs of the students.
The CARD Academy curriculum is based on the Department of Education’s standards and is enhanced by the Skills® assessment and curriculum, developed by the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD). Aligned with the Common Core curriculum, Skills® is a technology used by teachers and administrators to organize lesson plans, track progress, identify trends, and allocate resources, such as extra training.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that one in every 68 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with ASD, with one in 42 boys and one in 189 girls diagnosed. These figures have increased by more than 30 percent since previously reported in 2008. As the prevalence of ASD has increased, services for children with ASD have not always kept pace with demand. As a result, families affected by ASD may encounter challenges when trying to access the services that are crucial to their child’s development, such as an individualized education in the classroom.
About Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD)
CARD treats individuals of all ages who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at treatment centers around the globe. CARD was founded in 1990 by leading autism expert and clinical psychologist Doreen Granpeesheh, PhD, BCBA-D. CARD treats individuals with ASD using the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA), which is empirically proven to be the most effective method for treating individuals with ASD and recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the US Surgeon General. CARD employs a dedicated team of nearly 2,000 individuals across the nation and internationally. For more information, visit www.centerforautism.com or call (855) 345-2273.
