EVENT #2 WHAT:
FREE Careers in Film SummitJoin the Academy on Saturday, October 8, as we partner with Overbrook Entertainment and President Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative for the Academy's 2nd Annual Careers in Film Summit. The daylong event will provide students from the Los Angeles, Inglewood and Compton Unified School Districts, and the local community, the opportunity to learn about careers in the motion picture industry as well as hear from working professionals about the skills, education and hard work required to achieve their dreams.The summit will feature six panels of Academy members, filmmakers and special guests who will discuss their professions and the paths they took to achieve successful careers. The moderators and panelists will help students identify key knowledge areas, skills and competencies that are essential for specific jobs. Students will be able to participate in Q&A sessions at the end of each panel.Panelists will represent a wide variety of film industry jobs, including cinematography, composing, sound design, film editing, special effects makeup, visual effects, public relations, marketing and costume design. Clips from feature films – chosen by the panelists to highlight significant work – will illustrate the talks.TARGET AUDIENCE:
9th thru 12th Grade High School Students andAny College Student with Current Student IDIDs will be checked at the door.Admission is free, but advance tickets are required. Young Black Scholars Dress Code PolicyStudent's Dress and GroomingThe approved dress is Business CasualYoung Men: slacks, docker-type pants, shirts with collars, dress shirts, polo shirts, pullover sweatersYoung Ladies: dresses, skirts, slacks, suits, blouses, sweaters, etc.The following guidelines shall apply to attendance at all YBS activities and Events:* YBS participants shall give proper attention to personal cleanliness and neatness of dress at all events.* Dress, grooming, or accessories, which contain language or symbols supporting sex, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or gang association, shall not be allowed.* No hats, baseball-type hats, or other headgear are to be worn at YBS events unless it is medically/religiously required and approved by the YBS staff.* Long parka jackets and baggy pants are not to be worn.* No denim (jeans, skirts, dresses, etc.) are to be worn.* Clothes shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times. See-through or fishnet fabrics, halter tops, off the shoulder or low-cut tops, bare midriffs, spaghetti straps, short skirts, and sheer clothing are prohibited.* Beach walkers, slippers and/or flip flops are not to be worn.* Tattoos and/or body piercings (if applicable) are to be covered.* Cellphones, pagers and all audio devices must be turned off and concealed.
