FÚTBOL IS LIFE: ANIMATED SPORTRAITS BY LYNDON J. BARROIS, SR.

LACMA Presents “Fútbol Is Life” Exhibition Celebrating Soccer and the 2026 World Cup

LOS ANGELES—The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) presents Fútbol Is Life: Animated Sportraits by Lyndon J. Barrois, Sr., a unique exhibition celebrating the global culture of soccer and the arrival of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Los Angeles.

The exhibition features more than 60 works by award-winning animator and visual effects artist Lyndon J. Barrois, Sr., including many pieces never before shown publicly. Using one-inch-high sculptures created primarily from chewing gum wrappers, glue, and detailed paintwork, Barrois recreates iconic moments from women’s and men’s soccer history with remarkable precision and emotion.

The exhibition includes more than 40 newly created vignettes inspired by World Cup matches spanning nearly a century, along with tributes to Los Angeles soccer stars Son Heung-Min (LAFC), Christen Press, and Riqui Puig (LA Galaxy). Visitors will also experience the artist’s acclaimed sculptural installation and short film Fútballet, which combines 21 memorable soccer moments on a miniature soccer field using stop-motion animation filmed and edited on iPhones.

Additional highlights include life-size sculptures of Marta and Lionel Messi, behind-the-scenes studio footage, and works exploring horse racing and American football.
