ABOUT THE PROJECT

The proposed tunnel will connect the southern terminus of the 710 freeway at Valley Boulevard to the 134 and 210 freeways in Pasadena.  For decades, thousands of cars have been forced to use local streets to connect to their destinations because the 710 freeway was never completed.  This voter-approved project will have regional benefits including:

  • Reduce air emissions and health risks in lower income, minority areas that have been plagued by poor air quality due to severe congestion and slow traffic on neighborhood streets

  • Create over 40,000 new jobs

  • Move traffic from local streets back onto freeways where it was originally designed to go

  • Reduce cut-through traffic on neighborhood streets by 43% (or 57,000 vehicles per day)
