CITYWATCH TODAY--It seems that it doesn’t take very much for people to lose all common sense. The advent of the Coronavirus or COVID-19 has been yet another example of absolute stupidity. It’s bad enough that we have the orange idiot in the White House along with “Fox” (not news) stating that the entire potential pandemic is a hoax while gagging those that are reporting the truth, but there are fools and morons sharing not only incorrect but potentially dangerous “treatments” for the virus.
The internet has become fair game for everyone that wants to expand the misinformation and try to sell their snake oil products, and when you add a populace that embraces all kinds of alternative therapies, it is a formula for disaster. Whether it is the “doctor” in China that has a detailed list of cures or the politician in India that states COVID-19 can be cured with a combination of cow dung and urine, these are crossing all borders as social media offers incorrect information to the scared and desperate.
The medical community is having a difficult enough time trying to get true data and information out to people, and it is the people themselves that are undermining the entire process by trying all kinds of insane treatments. I had a hard conversation with someone on social media as they tried to make a case for using lemon juice instead of alcohol for sterilizing. In another case, people that supported the Republican/trump attitude that there is no cause for alarm stated that just eating healthy and taking vitamins would keep the virus away. Yet another report is showing that there are people out there encouraging toxic mixtures of bleach to be ingested!
While we understand that there is fear in the unknown, this entire landscape of fake and harmful treatments looks more like a moment out of a mental institution.
