All You Need is Love

VOICES

ACCORDING TO LIZ - This article could have been timed to align with the International Day of Peace on September 21 but, in the words of the Beatles song, “Love is all you need” means anywhere, and what better day to spread the message than on the nation’s 249th birthday.

We desperately need its essential simplicity and signification of hope, now and for the future, just to get the United States and Americans through the next 365 days to the country’s quarter-millennial mark.

The International Day of Peace, established by the United Nations in 1981, less than a year after John Lennon’s death and sadly lost in the four decades of endless war since, is dedicated to promoting world peace and striving for global non-violence.

It might have also been appropriate to publish this on May 1st in honor of Global Love Day’s mission of spreading of love and peace to all mankind, encouraging unity and celebrating humanity through unconditional love.

After the challenges of the past seven months, Americans and the world need all of that and more.

The premier performance of John Lennon’s “All You Need is Love” was the most famous segment of “Our World” – the first multi-national multi-satellite live TV production – broadcast on Sunday 25 June 1967 to an audience of 400 to 700 million people in twenty-four countries.

A quantum leap forward in sophistication from the Beatles 1963 hit “She Loves You,”

“All You Need is Love” opens with the stirring chords of the La Marseillaise, the French national anthem. Like most other national anthems, it’s imbued with rousing military imagery, underlining the dichotomy of fighting as a way to put an end to war.

Along with others of Lennon idealistic ballads including “Give Peace A Chance” and “Imagine,” it was quickly adopted as an anthem of the rising power of the anti-war movement that was manifesting as the American public started to realize the depth of the betrayal by its own government with the Vietnam War.

Followed by further disillusionment as the country moved from the Camelot of the Kennedys to Nixon and Watergate.

And now, Trump’s abject betrayal of the people who voted him back into the White House.

Extra points for catching the easter eggs as you read the lyrics, but the world would be a much better place if we all showed just a little more love to each other.

Take a minute or two to really read the words, suck them in and let them flow through your veins, imbuing your spirit with love and peace for all people for this 4th of July and every day moving forward.

“All You Need Is Love”

Love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love, love

There's nothing you can do that can't be done
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung
Nothing you can say, but you can learn
How to play the game
It's easy

Nothing you can make that can't be made
No one you can save that can't be saved
Nothing you can do, but you can learn
How to be you in time
It's easy

All you need is love
All you need is love
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need

Love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love, love

All you need is love
All you need is love
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need

Nothing you can know that isn't known
Nothing you can see that isn't shown
There's nowhere you can be that isn't where
You're meant to be
It's easy

All you need is love
All you need is love
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need

All you need is love (all together now!)
All you need is love (everybody!)
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need

Love is all you need (love is all you need)
Love is all you need (love is all you need)
Love is all you need (love is all you need)
Love is all you need (love is all you need)

Love is all you need (love is all you need)
Love is all you need (love is all you need)
Love is all you need (love is all you need)
Love is all you need (love is all you need)

Love is all you need (love is all you need)
Love is all you need (love is all you need)
Love is all you need (love is all you need)
(Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (love is all you need)

Yesterday (love is all you need)
Oh (love is all you need)
(Love is all you need)
(Love is all you need)
