SOUTH OF THE 10 - The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) regrets to announce that two police officers have been arrested for warrants related to filing a false police report.
In February 2018, LBPD detectives discovered discrepancies in the police reports and the surveillance video regarding a firearms arrest. Through their review, detectives learned that the officers’ actions were inconsistent with their written reports. The arrested subject was immediately released, and charges were not filed against him.
As a result, LBPD began an investigation into the officers’ actions. In January 2019, at the conclusion of the criminal investigation, detectives submitted the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
On Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, arrest warrants were issued, and officers Dedier Reyes and David Salcedo voluntarily surrendered into custody.
Reyes was booked for one count of perjury, one count of filing a false police report, and one count of filing a false government document. His bail is set at $2.00.
Salcedo was booked for one count of filing a false police report, and one count of filing a false government document. His bail is set a $1.00.
Reyes is a 16-year officer who was most recently assigned to the South Patrol Division; Salcedo is a 5-year officer most recently assigned to the South Patrol Division.
Both officers have been suspended pending the outcome of the internal affairs investigation.
“We have high standards and expectations of every employee. When the actions of an individual employee erode the values of our organization, and the public trust all of us have worked so hard to cultivate, we all must be held accountable,” said Chief of Police Robert Luna.
The Department is reviewing previous reports and arrests for each officer and will work closely with the District Attorney’s Office to share any information and findings pertinent to the investigation.
