#  Sheryl Lee Ralph Receives The Laurel Foundation’s 2024 Youth Empowerment Award

LGBTQ - In a momentous celebration of advocacy and empowerment, *The Laurel Foundation* has named Tony Award nominee and Emmy Award-winning actress Sheryl Lee Ralph as the recipient of its 2024 Youth Empowerment Award. The prestigious honor recognizes Ralph's tireless efforts to champion HIV/AIDS awareness, LGBTQ+ rights, social justice, racial and gender equity, and support for women, girls, and marginalized communities.

Presented annually, the Youth Empowerment Award spotlights individuals whose work significantly uplifts and inspires young people. Sheryl Lee Ralph's extraordinary contributions through *The DIVA Foundation*—an organization she founded—perfectly embody these ideals. For over three decades, Ralph has harnessed her platform to address critical issues like food and housing insecurity while fostering equity across all walks of life.

“She has been an unwavering force for good,” said Margot Anderson, Founder and CEO of *The Laurel Foundation.* “Her dedication to creating positive change, especially for young people, is unparalleled. We are proud to honor her legacy with this award.”

Ralph's multifaceted career as an entertainer, activist, and philanthropist underscores her belief in using her voice to impact lives meaningfully. From her advocacy for HIV/AIDS education and awareness to championing opportunities for underrepresented communities, Ralph’s work continues to inspire new generations of leaders.

The award ceremony took place at The Leslies' 36th Annual Toy Drive and Fundraiser benefiting The Laurel Foundation in Palm Springs on December 7, 2024, where Ralph accepted the award virtually.

This recognition adds to Ralph's growing list of accolades, including her Emmy Award-winning role in *Abbott Elementary,* where her portrayal of a dedicated teacher mirrors her real-life commitment to nurturing and uplifting others.

Through this award, *The Laurel Foundation* not only celebrates Sheryl Lee Ralph’s storied career but also her unwavering dedication to empowering youth and advocating for justice and equality for all.
