 WESTSIDE - Brian Goldsmith, a first-time candidate, journalist and entrepreneur met with about a dozen or so Venice locals Friday morning in sort of a "listening campaign" reminiscent of Hillary Clinton's initial run for the US Senate back in 2000 when she defeated Republican Rick Lazio.

Clinton, who visited every county in New York succeeded Daniel Patrick Moynihan who retired.

Several local business owners, community activists and those just passing by got the chance over coffee to ask questions and engage the candidate on the things they wanted to talk about while he held court at The Butcher's Daughter located on Abbott Kinney in the heart of Venice.

Ironically, Goldsmith worked for Hillary Clinton’s U.S. Senate office early in his career. According to his professional biography, he worked in the research and press operations of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s initial 2000 Senate campaign/office before later becoming a journalist and political commentator.

Running under the slogan "safety, affordability and results," Goldsmith is married with two children and is a graduate of Harvard University and Stanford Law School.

An Experienced journalist, political strategist, attorney, entrepreneur, and Democratic consultant with a career spanning media production, campaign advising, startup leadership, and public affairs. Combines legal training with communications expertise and grassroots engagement to address affordability, public safety, housing, education, and community resilience.

The 24th district is currently represented by Ben Allen, who is term limited and now a candidate for Insurance Commissioner for the state of California.
