#  McKinnor Highlights Budget and Legislative Wins for the 61st District

 WESTSIDE \_ Assemblymember Tina McKinnor (D-61st) outlined her 2025 legislative and budget accomplishments in a message back to constituents this week.

McKinnor is a member of the California State Assembly, representing District 61, which includes many communities in Los Angeles County (e.g. Gardena, Inglewood, Los Angeles, Marina del Rey, Venice, etc.). She currently serves as Chair of the Assembly’s Public Employment &amp; Retirement Committee.

McKinnor also sits on several policy committees: Business &amp; Professions; Environmental Safety &amp; Toxic Materials; Governmental Organization; Judiciary; and Arts, Entertainment, Sports &amp; Tourism.

McKinnor was unanimously elected Chair of the Los Angeles County Legislative Delegation, the largest and most diverse delegation in the state Legislature. A powerful voice in Sacramento for Los Angeles — active in employment / retirement, environmental, business, housing, and broader social-justice issues.

In her year end review, McKinnor outlined the following legislative wins:

AB 288 - Protects every California worker's right to organize and join a union when the federal government attempts to delay or deny worker's union rights.

AB 628 - Requires new leases on residential properties to include a working stove and fridge in order to make housing safer and affordable for tenants.

AB 749 - Creates a Blue-Ribbon Commission to improve access, equity, involvement and sustainability of youth sports while building healthier and stronger communities.

AB 851 - Prohibits unsolicited, below market offers to residential properties damaged or destroyed during the January 2025 wildfires and allows the seller of an impacted property to rescind the sale within four months. This gives sellers an informed decision process whether to rebuild or sell.

The California budget process was able to resolve a budget deficit and approve a balanced, and on time budget, according to McKinnor.

Here are some funding highlights of this budget:

- $2.5 billion to support the impacted wildfire communities of Eaton &amp; the Palisades.
- $1billion emergency loan to both LA County and Los Angeles to address immediate fiscal needs.
- $9.7 million for property tax backfill related to fire impacted school districts.
- $5 million to develop a grant program for community colleges with workforce recovery efforts and career technical education associated with the LA region's recovery from the wildfires.
- $3.6 million for the Will Rogers State Park visitor center and related fire impacted facilities.
- $4 million to the Foothill Municipal Water District for impacts on the Eaton Fire water systems.
- $500,000 for mosquito abatement in the impacted Eaton fire.

McKinnor noted her district office is available to help regarding questions or assistance with state agencies, accessing unemployment benefits, or signing up for free low-cost health insurance through Covered California.
