He is a conman. He is a cheat." - and, as House Oversight Chair Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) [noted,](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAdmsSJXn68) deeply painful. In his stirring closing statement, Cummings urged lawmakers to work to "get back to this democracy that we want and that we should be passing on to our children."

"As a country, we are so much better than this," he said with rising emotion. "When we're dancing with the angels, the question will be asked: In 2019, what did we do to make sure we kept our democracy intact?" Watch.
