What’s a Mad Man (Fan) to Do?

ARCHIVE

I didn’t want to say anything, but I did work for a couple of seasons as a background performer on “Mad Men.” (Photo) In fact, I was secretly a Soviet spy working at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce and no one ever had an inkling of the back story I invented for my character. I came up with this character history long before “The Americans” too, so what can I say? I guess I really do have my finger of the pulse of…something, I’m not sure what.

Anyways, you’d a thought the series finale of the most Emmy nominated show in television history would have sent watering holes throughout the city scrambling to hire the best retro graphic designers around  to work their magic in a bid to lure the faithful in for a swanky viewing party.

Nope.

If you’re lucky, and you already bought a ticket, you might meet Matthew Weiner himself at Jason Reitman’s Live Read and Series Finale. Film Independent and AMC are presenting this soirée at the Theatre of the Ace Hotel in DTLA.

Those lucky guests will be treated to a reading of “The Wheel,” the bittersweet finale of Season One.

As of this writing, tickets are sold out. I did find a few available in the balcony section this morning from third party vendors for around $125 a piece. Just shake your jewelry and contemplate what a cheap seat really is for you.

If you’ve got a lot of jewelry, you might want to inquire with luxury destination and events concierge, Victoria Hoffman or call her at 305-632-8339. She’s got a $3500 package that includes the screening and the party.

If all of this is just too rich for your blood, not to worry! It’s been a trying chore, fellow deal seeking Mad Men-ians – but I have come up with a short list of spots in the city of angels that will be hosting the last leg of this deep and moody piece of Americana.
