Mayor Doesn’t Know His Water

VOICES-From the Mayor's statement, (see CityWatch “Can We Afford the Mayor’s Water Conservation Mandate”) it is obvious he knows not the difference between irrigation water and drinking water. Irrig ation water does not enter the sewer system but becomes groundwater. We here in the state of California already are conserving 20% and only using our irrigation water 3 times per week; or does this Mayor not listen to the elected Governor's mandates.

I remember the days when this Mayor was a Councilman and he was most enthusiastic about Neighborhood Councils. It seems that enthusiasm was based on his intention to run for Mayor and not heartfelt. The reason for that thought is that this Mayor totally ignores the NCs in preparation for this conservation mandate.

Whether the Mayor wants to acknowledge the NCs or not, the NCs are key in the City of Los Angeles. The NCs are a communication key of city government as well as a very ardent watchdog. Why the change once elected?

Has this Mayor consulted with his appointed advisors about the cost burden of this policy to his constituents? Maybe he needs to take the class currently at CSUN that deals with just that subject -- or the Mayor can send one of his advisors to take the class so that this information can be on more solid ground. This Mayor must have thought about it in the shower one morning and had an "ah-ha" moment.

This Mayor's "ah-ha" moment is half-baked. His water conservation mandate is hollow and without adequate research. His "ah-ha" moment is not worth the cost to his constituents. Where are rebates from the DWP for the property owners in the City of Los Angeles? What other incentive programs will be made available while his constituents try to figure out how to accomplish such a dream of the Mayor? Why did the Mayor not consult with the PR department at the DWP on how to "sell" this idea? Why did this Mayor leave the Neighborhood Councils out of the consideration of this
mandate and conveying information to the constituents?

I can not even take this Mayor's "ah-ha" moment seriously because I have not been given enough information to determine whether this is a good thing, a bad thing, or just another fantasy of an elected.

Go back to bed, Mayor.
