This closure is needed for the LA Convention Center (LACC) Expansion and Modernization Project, which will connect the existing South and West Exhibit Halls above Pico Boulevard. This public infrastructure investment will be a major economic driver for Downtown Los Angeles. It will create more than 15,000 jobs, add $652 million in General Fund tax revenue over 30 years and draw in more than $150 million in additional visitor spending each year. **LOCATION AND DATES OF CLOSURE**
Pico Boulevard, between LA Live Way and Figueroa Street, in Downtown Los Angeles will be closed 24-hours/7 days a week from **Thursday December 4, 2025** to **March 31, 2028.** Typical working hours for the LACC Expansion and Modernization Project will be Monday-Friday from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm and Saturday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Additional work hours will be added as required/necessary.

In addition, there will be work taking place in the surrounding area on December 6 and 7, 2025 to restripe area streets for detour. This work area is Pico Boulevard, between Albany Street and Grand Avenue.

**WORK DURING CLOSURE**
Work in this area will include demolition, underground utilities, excavation, foundations and pile placement, structural steel erections, sidewalk and roadwork improvements, traffic controls, backfilling, asphalt paving, striping of roadways and intersections and landscaping.

**FUTURE OF PICO BOULEVARD**
This closure is necessary to construct above Pico Boulevard and connect the West Hall with the South Hall. Below are renderings that show what Pico will look like when the Project is complete.

Open to **Hawthorne residents only (proof of residency required)**, participants are asked to place their boxes in the trunk of their vehicles for contact-free collection by city staff. E-waste includes any items that are electronic or have a power cord. Gates will close promptly at **12:45 p.m.** to ensure all participants are served before the event concludes.

“Every ton of shredded paper that is recycled reduces greenhouse gas emissions, saves water, and lowers energy usage,” said **Selena Acuna**, City of Hawthorne public works manager. “This event complements our broader waste-reduction goals by creating a culture of responsible disposal, just like our e-waste collections, hazardous waste drop-offs, and green business certifications.”

Los Angeles’ longest-running independent art fair, the **LA Art Show**, returns January 7–11 for its 31st edition — once again transforming the Convention Center into an international showcase of modern and contemporary art. One of the few remaining privately owned and operated fairs of its scale, the LA Art Show continues to anchor L.A.’s cultural calendar with authenticity and global reach.

This year’s highlights include **Provident Fine Art’s debut** featuring *Sylvester Stallone’s abstract works*, **Oliver Sears Gallery** (Dublin) as the first gallery from Ireland to exhibit, and **Pontone Gallery** (London) showcasing self-taught artist and rock drummer **Chris Rivers**. A new **Latin American Pavilion** and a slate of first-time exhibitors promise fresh discoveries across genres and borders.

From Switzerland, **LICHT FELD Gallery** presents the rediscovered **woodcut prints of Karl A. Meyer**, created during his 1980s New York City period among the influential Crosby Street art scene — works unseen for nearly four decades.

This pedal-powered happy hour brings together daily riders, weekend warriors, and families for an afternoon of good vibes, great brews, and community. Researchers from **UCLA** will present findings from a new study linking the 2015 blowout to lasting health effects — including a nearly **50% increase in low birth weights** among babies born to women pregnant during the disaster. Residents will also introduce a new tool for tracking and monitoring future leaks.
