# Los Angeles, Vote Today. City Hall Will Feel the Results for Years

CITYWATCH EDITORIAL — The next time a streetlight goes dark on your block, your power bill jumps or you hear that the city can’t afford a service your neighborhood counts on, somebody at City Hall will have to explain the decision. Tuesday, Nov. 3, is your chance to help decide who will be giving those answers.
It’s easy to spend an election season talking about who’s up, who’s down and who raised the most money. But after the campaign signs come down, the people we elect will still have to decide what gets funded, what gets cut and which promises to survive the first budget meeting. The ballot measures voters approve can shape those choices for years.
Think about one thing you want Los Angeles to do better. Maybe it’s getting a streetlight fixed before someone gets hurt. Maybe it’s speeding up rebuilding, keeping a library open longer or giving residents a clearer explanation of where their tax dollars go. Then look down your ballot and ask who has a credible plan to get it done. For a measure, ask what it changes, who pays for it and who will be accountable for carrying it out.
Pay attention to the races that got fewer campaign mailers, too. The people elected to those offices may make decisions that touch your daily life long after the candidates at the top of the ballot have moved on to their next campaign. And if you’re still undecided on a race or measure, you can leave it blank and cast your votes on the choices you’ve made.

On Wednesday, we’ll still have disagreements about what Los Angeles needs. We’ll still have to show up at meetings, ask hard questions and hold officials to their promises. Tomorrow, we get to choose who will have to answer those questions.
Los Angeles, take the time to vote.
