> On Tuesday, the full Los Angeles City Council will consider adopting the motion by Councilmember Paul Krekorian, District 2, which calls for a citywide crackdown on graffiti vandalism. Krekorian wants the City to do the following:
>
> (1): Increase the City’s penalties for graffiti violations, particularly on murals; and
>
> (2): Increase the reward offered for information leading to the capture and conviction of graffiti vandals.

> **WHO:** Councilmember Paul Krekorian and his City Council colleagues.

> “We need to do everything we can to keep graffiti out of our city and to discourage people from breaking the law,” said Krekorian. “Graffiti is a huge problem for Los Angeles, especially when it results in the destruction of public murals painted by students, community organizations and hard-working artists. I want to put would-be vandals on notice that they will face steep penalties if they deface our neighborhoods.”

**DOUBLING PENALTIES AND REWARD**

Here’s how Krekorian’s plan would impact the fight against graffiti in LA: ·

CURRENT: The LA municipal code allows for an administrative fine of $250 for the first graffiti offense, $500 for the second and $1,000 for the third.·

KREKORIAN’S PLAN would double the penalty for mural defacement.

CURRENT: The current reward for information leading to the capture and conviction of graffiti vandals is $1,000.

KREKORIAN’S PLAN would double the reward to $2,000.
