> **T![](https://www.citywatchla.com/images/stories/Oct-2014/87b.png)HIS IS PERSONAL-Pachuco** refers to a particular old school subculture of [Hispanic and Latino Americans](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hispanic_and_Latino_Americans "Hispanic and Latino Americans") associated with [zoot suits](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoot_suit "Zoot suit"), [street gangs](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_gang "Street gang"), [nightlife](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightlife "Nightlife"), and flamboyant public behavior in an attempt to look and feel like a mafia bosses of the Chicago gangster era. The idea of the pachuco – a zoot-suited, well-dressed, street-connected flamboyant [playboy](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playboy_(lifestyle) "Playboy (lifestyle)") of Hispanic/Latino heritage – originated in [El Paso](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Paso "El Paso"), [Texas](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas "Texas"), and [Ciudad Juárez](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ciudad_Ju%C3%A1rez "Ciudad Juárez"), [Mexico](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexico "Mexico"), and moved westward, following the line of migration of Mexican railroad workers ("[traqueros](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traquero "Traquero")") into [Los Angeles](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles "Los Angeles"), where it developed further.

The influence of Valdés is responsible for the assimilation of several Caló terms into Mexican slang.
