RESISTANCE WATCH--If you want to make a real difference that impacts so many of our community members and residents, please attend and share this event hosted by March and Rally. This is one of the most crucial issues we are currently facing in LA.
Join March and Rally Thursday, December 7th at Los Angeles City Hall to demand an end to ICE/LAPD entanglement.
March and Rally will be hosting a short rally at Noon and then proceed to the Immigrant Affairs, Civil Rights, and Equity Committee which meets at 1pm (3rd floor room 340). We need your support and public comments at this crucial meeting. This committee was created a year ago in response to the threat posed by the Trump administration, yet it has failed to issue any recommendations for a new policy on ICE/LAPD, let alone advance a sanctuary ordinance.
Los Angeles is at the verge of enacting historic changes to the Los Angeles Police Department that will have long-lasting impact on the safety of immigrant communities. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and the LAPD are currently reviewing and updating Special Order 40, the department-wide policy from 1979 that guides how LA police officers engage on immigration enforcement issues. But the reality is that the deportation force has evolved dramatically in the past 40 years and Special Order 40 is now quite outdated. City Council has taken little initiative in involving themselves in this process. Our communities are facing increased and blatant enforcement expansion, with the current Trump administration is making clear plans to expand Police-ICE entanglement!
Immigrants shouldn’t have to face a massive deportation machine that tears our communities apart. Our leaders must ensure that any new Special Order keeps ICE out of the jails, prevents LAPD from collaborating with ICE, and prohibits collection and sharing of information for immigration enforcement.
Help us make sure the new Special Order is strong and visionary so that Los Angeles leads the efforts to protect immigrants, not just paying lip-service to them. We can't let our City Council take a wait and see approach with Trump's deportation machine.
Also, please sign and share the petition demanding an end to ICE/LAPD entanglement.
