It's a Democracy, Rosemary!

ARCHIVE

VOICES-(In response to the Rosemary Jenkins City Watch article ‘WhenRecall Becomes Necessary’)

Your vitriolic condemnation of the newly elected State Assemblywoman Patty Lopez questions all those concepts we hold dear. If she doesn't come with the Party Brand stamped all over her and the accompanying superfluous fun ds does that make her any less interested or qualified to represent her constituents?

The fact that she happened to muster enough votes against a strong incumbent who reportedly had aspirations to be the next speaker of the House speaks to democracy in action. The majority of her constituents are of Hispanic ancestry as is she, but we chastise her for less than perfect command of the English language? For anyone new to the process of running for political office who doesn't have the funds or staff to travail the numerous steps and paperwork required, do we automatically kick them out of the way even when, and especially when, they actually win?

Within half of a week the process appears to be in motion, between your article and the robo political calls coming to her constituents - recall NOW!

Don't wait for her to stay in office for a mere month. Don't wait for her or her bipartisan (the HORROR!) staff to start learning the process of government.

It seems more likely that "The Establishment" was robbed and rushes in to grab the spoils before there is even a corpse. What a sad commentary for Politics and our citizens.
