Editor’s Memo: Mayor Wimpy

WORLD WATCH

CITYWATCH TODAY—When I was a kid and on occasion needed an attitude adjustment, my grandmother used figuratively grab me by the collar and say, “You’re too smart for your own good.” I feel that way about our Mayor. Mayor Wimpy. He’s too smart for his own good.

He IS a smart cookie but he outthinks himself. He’s inclined toward strategy and manipulation. I want empathy and understanding. He believes that if he remains noncommittal on controversial issues he can skate his way to higher office. I want a risk-taker who will believe in something … and say so. He has become Mayor Wimpy.

As the Times pointed out today Mayor Wimpy is nowhere to be heard on Measure JJJ … and then goes on post a list of hot button stuff he has dodged … believing that if he ignores it he will come away clean and unsullied. Instead, he’s generating his own Wimpy brand.

Daniel Guss calls Mayor Wimpy out for hiding from the LAFD corruption discoveries … reported first by CityWatch, then by the Times and others. Read it for yourself … in Today’s CityWatch.

I want to like Mayor Garcetti. But he makes it tough. I’m not convinced he’d have my back if the going got tough and he had to risk his brand. And, when it comes my turn to speak up … at the polls … I will find it tough to support Mayor Wimpy.
