Plea for Help
Convicted murderer Kerry M. Conley has applied for parole and will soon be given a hearing at the Correctional Training Facility —please join us in opposing his parole.
In November 1983, Kerry Conley brutally murdered his ex-girlfriend, college senior Marsalee (Marsy) Nicholas — forever ending her dream of becoming a teacher specializing in helping disabled children.
Kerry Conley stalked Marsy, threatened her and ultimately shot her in the head when she refused to reconcile.
Marsy was the daughter of Marcella Leach, CVUC’s vice chair, and her murder was what led Marcella to our group, and to co-found her own group — Justice for Homicide Victims.
As a result of his actions, Kerry Conley was sentenced to 17 years to life — and releasing him on parole would be a very grave mistake.
First, the extreme level of cruelty, callousness and brutality of his crime simply demands a more substantial punishment.
Second, the concept of parole was originally created to provide selective “early” release for prisoners serving “excessive” sentences — and I do not believe anyone can argue that this sentence is not warranted for the cold-blooded murder of a young student.
Third, now that parole is unfortunately being considered as a method by which to reduce overcrowding, we must still argue that violent felons such as this should never be considered for such programs.
And fourth, to this day, Kerry Conley has still not admitted to the specifics of his crime — having provided numerous conflicting stories to the parole board during past hearings. We find it very hard to accept any true remorse on his part when there is still no real admission of guilt.
In the name of justice — and for the sake of Marsy’s family and all Californians —
Please send a letter to the Board of Parole Hearing by August 31 opposing Kerry M. Conley’s parole.

Correction
I just read "CityWatch Opinion - BONC Minutes Turning to Months" (August 3) and need to tell you that the 2007 BONC meeting minutes (and transcripts as well) ARE on the DONE website -- when you select "Minutes" in the top menu, even though you are shown the 2006 minutes by default, the 2007 minutes are there, only if you manually click on "2007" in the top menu of that page.
Perhaps you should direct your misgivings instead towards the Department of Information Technology for some shoddy HTML coding!
