Group Says: Zev has Made Their Point and Planning’s Goldberg “Is Beside Herself” Print E-mail
Weiss Recall Follow-up
By Staff Writers with excerpts from latest Weiss Recall release

Active Image Borrowing heavily from the CityWatch video of County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky’s comments to the Citywide Alliance, and comments from LA Planning Director Gail Goldberg, the latest word from the Recall Jack Weiss campaign trumpets support for their cause.

From Elijah May’s latest release on behalf of the recall committee: “In a rare move by a Los Angeles elected official, County supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky called a spade a spade by telling Neighborhood Council leaders that the City doesn’t take them seriously and that developers quite literally run some city offices.

‘The gulf between what’s happening (with land use and development) at City Hall and what’s happening in the community gets wider every day.’

This is precisely what recall supporters are counting on. Zev’s assertion that, “There is no quantity or quality control out of City Hall,” is exactly what spurred and continues to drive the recall movement. While the Supervisor never said, “Jack Weiss is directly responsible …” he made it perfectly clear that developers are having their way with city officials.

Active Image City Planner Gail Goldberg, ostensibly brought here to alleviate some of the city’s natural growing pains, is beside herself. She describes the relationship between developers and certain city offices as ‘disastrous,’ saying that, ‘ in Los Angeles … the value of the land is not based on what the zone says … it’s based on what the developer thinks he can have the zone changed to.’  Supervisor Yaroslavsky expanded on that saying, ‘Planning is not being done by the city, but by the developer interests … the development community believes that they can get anything they want.’” (See CityWatch Yaroslavsky video)

Although they offered no specifics, the recall committee also reported their petition signature gathering as being “on-target.”  They have until October 18 to collect 23,000 signatures.

They also reported “approximately $20,000 in contributions” against expenditures of $27,000 for the period ending June 30.  (Contact info: Recall Jack Weiss committee-www.recalljackweiss.com & Jack Weiss This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it ) _
