Need to Know
Edited by Sara Epstein

The Mayor and the DWP Chief have presented a new water conservation plan and say they plan to enforce it. Under the new scheme, residential customers can be docked $100 for a first offense and large customers and businesses … $200.

DWP says it will have the Drought Buster Police out in the field to ticket the wrong-doers. Could be as many as 15 out looking for offenders.

Here’s what you know to help with the City’s water conservation plan … and to save yourself a fine.

Effective now, you cannot do the following things:

  • Water laws between  9 a.m. and after 4p.m. and to 15 minutes per station for rotating sprinklers and 10 minutes per station for other types of sprinklers 12 months a year;
  • Use water on hard surfaces such as sidewalks, walkways, driveways, or parking areas except for public health;
  • Allow excess water from sprinklers to flood gutters;
  • Use water to clean, fill, or maintain decorative fountains unless the water is part of a recycling system;
  • Serve water to customers in eating establishments, unless requested;
