The Sunland-Tujunga Home Depot debate moves back to the front burner, courtesy of the City Attorney’s Mediation Group and a newly filed application to building at 8040 Foothill Blvd.
The Mediation was set some time ago and is schedule for Saturday from 1-4 p.m. The goal was to get the community and Home Depot together for “a forum for constructive discussions relating to the store,” according the HD spokesperson.
The filing of the application to begin again … what some in the community thought was on hold or stopped … the process for remodeling permits on the eve of the mediation program will surely, some community members feel, add tension to Saturday’s event.
The aw suit against the City was put on hold, Home Depot’s Director of Real Estate, Jeff Nichols, says “so we can work collaboratively with the city and the community on new solutions.”
Hundreds of Sunland-Tujunga residents and businesses are supporting our efforts to open the store,” Nichols says.
Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council Secretary Cindy Cleghorn offered the following report on Tuesday:
“While the STNC has not participated in any of the arrangements for this event, we strongly encourage your attendance and participation. Sunland-Tujunga is our community and the voice of the community matters in the future of our quality of life.
“As of today, the STNC has not received any new plans for the K-Mart site from The Home Depot or the Department of City Planning. The only communication is a request for the DAC's Project Information Form from The Home Depot's public relations representative at Consensus Planning who indicated that they would like to present sometime in May.”
Saturday’s mediation is being facilitated by Avis Ridley-Thomas, the Director of the City Attorney’s Dispute Resolution Program. (More info … including location … at the STNC website: www.stnc.org .)
