City of Los Angeles 17th Annual Emergency Preparedness Fairs:
“Great Southern California ShakeOut: Are You Prepared?”

FREE admission, FREE give aways, live safety demonstrations, disaster
preparedness exhibits, Children’s Preparedness Pavilion, interactive
programming for children ages 3- 12.

WHO:
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Under the leadership of the Los
Angeles Emergency Management Department: Representatives from Fire,
Police, Public Works, Water & Power, Transportation, Recreation & Parks,
Building & Safety, Department on Disabilities, Community Redevelopment
Agency, American Red Cross and others who play significant roles during
and after earthquakes, fires, floods, landslides and other natural or
man-made disasters.

WHY:
To educate City residents on the importance of being prepared for
earthquakes and other disasters, and to provide preparedness information
and tips.

VISUALS:
Exhibits, demonstrations, exhibits, emergency supplies, premiums, door
prizes.

"During an actual disaster, all television media outlets are strongly
urged to follow FCC regulations, ensure that all verbal information is
closed captioned and provided visually for people who are deaf or hard
of hearing, and ensure that any visual information, eg. "crawlers" is
also verbalized for the benefit of the blind and visually impaired
community."
